According to a research published Wednesday in JAMA Psychiatry, individuals who took this medicine, termed psilocybin, had an 83 percent decrease in heavy drinking, while those who took a placebo had a 51 percent decrease. Although recreational use of magic mushrooms is still illegal in the United States, researchers have been investigating psilocybin as a treatment for a number of mental diseases.
